    ABOUT DESHBANDHU COLLEGE LIBRARY

    The Deshbandhu College was established in 1952, the college has one of the largest libraries in terms of space and collection in South Campus Colleges of Delhi University. The college library has provided impetus to library services with the introduction of new and modern ICT infrastructure. The library is connected with Delhi University wide area campus networking system and provides access to electronic resources to its users from Delhi University Library System (DULS) and UGC-INFONET Consortium. The college library also subscribed NLIST (National Library and Information Services Infrastructure for Scholarly Content) which provide access to e-resources to its members. The library is providing various services such as reference service, circulation service, question bank, syllabus bank, Audio service for visually challenged persons, book bank service, and Open access to book shelves. The orientation programme is conducted at the commencement of new academic session every year. The library is computerized and books are bar-coded and made easily accessible through OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue). The library has a massive collection of 1,05,878 Books on sciences, social sciences, literature and languages(Sanskrit, Hindi, Sindhi, Punjabi, Bengali, English). The college library is functioning with mantra of:-

    “The right book to the right user at the right time”

    The college library has various sections such as:

    • Stack I: The Stack I contains general books, which are issued for 14 days
    • Stack II: The Stack II contains general books and Textbooks (can be issued only for 5 days from textbook section).
    • Extended Stack: The extended stack contains books on Religion, Philosophy, Punjabi, Sindhi, Bengali and Gandhian thought.
    • Reference Section: This section contains encyclopedia, dictionaries, biographies, atlases, and other books, which can be consulted in the reference section only. The books from this section cannot be issued.
    • Book Bank Section: This section contains textbooks, which are issued to needy and deserving students for the whole session.
    • Periodical Section: This section contains magazines and newspapers.

    The College library is using Dewey Decimal Classification Scheme (23rd Edition) for classifying the documents. The library users with the help of given ten main classes are able to find out the required document.
